Cordillo Downs Road

This track, known as the Cordillo Downs Road, passes the Cordillo Downs Homestead which was once Australia's largest sheep station with more than 85000 head of sheep. Travelling along the Cordillo Downs road means crossing the Sturt Stony Desert, a very remote area of South Australia. Although this track is the shortest way from Birdsville to Innamincka it’s not used very frequent.

The Cordillo Downs Road is rated as difficult because it's not maintained very well and the surface is rough. After rain this road may be impassable for days or weeks. It's important to check road-conditions before leaving Birdsville or Innamicka.

Going from Birdsville to Innamicka (or vice
versa) via Cordillo Downs means one day
of driving. If you like, you can camp at the
banks of a Waterhole near Caldelga HS
ruins, but this is no official camping spot.
So be sure to be totally self sufficient.
